I Met my Younger Self for Tea: A Powerful Reflection Prompt
A few weeks ago, there was a trend on Instagram of people making reels imagining themselves having coffee with their younger selves. They’d share how their younger self would react to their life now. The surprises, the excitements, the unexpected turns.
It made me pause and reflect. I really liked this trend, so I decided to create a reel myself (find it here!)
If I met my 18-year-old self for coffee, we’d actually be drinking tea, because coffee was never our thing.
She’d show up with her hair straightened. I’d show up with my natural curls.
She’d ask, do we live in a big city? Like London or New York? I’d say no, we live in Oslo. Her face would drop in dissapointment. Her biggest dream was to move abroad and experience life in a big city.
But then I’d tell her we got to spend seven years in New York. She’d immediately light up in excitment.
She would then ask: did we become psychologists, like planned?
Well… we studied psychology for five years. But we chose a different path—one that blends well-being, yoga, and our strengths in a way she wouldn’t quite understand yet.
I'd try to explain how we offer yoga & well-being retreats, 1:1 sessions, and online courses to help people boost their well-being, reduce stress, and be kinder to themselves. I'd share about our mission to help people live better lives.
She’d probably just sip her tea, confused.
But I’d smile, knowing she’d love where we ended up.
What about you? If you sat down for coffee (or tea🤗) with your younger self, what would they think of your life now? I invite you to reflect on this. What would surprise them, excite them, or make them proud?
This is such a powerful reflection. It helps us see how far we’ve come, what dreams we’ve outgrown, and what still matters most.
Even if your life looks nothing like what your younger self imagined and hoped for, maybe some aspects turned out even better in ways they couldn’t have understood back then.
