What is a “Positive Psychology Practitioner?” Discover the Science of Well-Being
“What does it mean to be a positive psychology practitioner?” This is a queston I get often, especially when I’m meeting new people. Let me tell you about it!
Positive psychology is the science of well-being. It’s the study of what makes people thrive on an individual, group, and community level. It emphasizes positive emotions, resilience, character strengths, and the factors that contribute to a fulfilling and meaningful life.
The field of positive psychology was founded by Dr. Martin Seligman and his colleagues in the late 90s/early 2000s. Since then, positive psychology has expanded into a global movement. Researchers and practitioners have developed evidence-based interventions to enhance well-being, resilience, and happiness across diverse populations.
I’ve earned my masters degree in Applied Positive Psychology at the University of Pennsylania, a program founded by Seligman. And as a positive psychology practitioner, I apply my expertise in the science of well-being to help my clients:
💜 Experience more joy
💜 Have better friendships and relationships
💜 Reduce their stress levels
💜 Be better able to navigate challenges
💜 Live a better life overall!
I do this through offering 1:1 well-being counseling, workshops, and retreats ✨
My original intention to study psychology was actually to become a traditional psychologist. BUT after experiencing the power of positive psychology, my life took a different path.
I realized that true well-being isn’t just the absence of mental illness, but the active cultivation of positive qualities, like healthy relationships, character strengths, meaning, and engagement.
This isn’t about forcing positivity or ignoring life’s challenges. It’s about taking a holistic approach to well-being.
Because we really CAN learn tools to navigate difficult experiences and challenges. We CAN overcome limiting beliefs. And we CAN take intentional action to cultivate more of the “good stuff” in life.
My passion is to support my clients toward holistic well-being by combining my expertise in psychology, trauma-informed yoga and mindfulness.
