How to Find the Best Yoga Practice for YOU!
This is an invitation for you to tune into your energy level, wants, & needs in your yoga practice 🧘🏻♀️✨
As a yoga teacher, people often ask me questions along the lines of “what type of yoga is best for me?” And I totally understand where this question is coming from. Today, there's a wide variety of yoga practices available. You can find everything from a gentle yoga flow or yin yoga, to more active vinyasa, ashtanga, and power flow classes.
When choosing a yoga class or movement practice, I invite you to feel into what you need on that particular day. How is your energy level? How do you want to feel during and after the yoga practice? What type of practice would make you feel more balanced today?
For example:
✨ If you want/need to release built-up energy, get warm, and activate your muscles —> check out vinyasa flow, power yoga, yogalates, or ashtanga yoga
✨ If you want/need to be gentle with yourself and calm your body and mind —> slow flow, hatha yoga, or yin yoga might be great for you
✨ If you want/need something extra relaxing and rejuvenating, or maybe you’d like to calm down right before going to bed —> I recommend restorative yoga or yoga nidra
A note for beginners: If you’re brand new to yoga, I recommend starting with some gentle yoga classes to learn the basics and explore what you like. These classes are often have titles like “slow flow,” “gentle yoga,” “yoga spa,” and similar. It could also be supportive to take a yoga course for beginners or invest in a few private lessons at the very beginning of your yoga journey.
To sum it all up: My invitation to you is to become aware of your needs and wants in your yoga practice and honor those needs when choosing your yoga classes. Remember that yoga should never be a strain on body or mind. Yoga asana (i.e. the physical yoga poses & movements) are meant to be therapeutic. And what that means might vary quite a bit from person to person. We all have a unique body and experience. It’s all about exploring and finding a practice that supports YOUR well-being!
